Say No to West Virginia American Water second rate hike!

      Prior to the most recent rate hike according to local news water rates were already among the highest in the nation. More information to come. As I have already seen, (see below),  emails received on this topic complain about poor customer service, negative attitudes by customer service reps, and poor service. Don't you usually get a raise for good performance? I will post where to let your voice be heard on the rate hike, and make a difference. To take a stand on this issue, let the Kanawha County Commission, Planning & Development know what you think. You do have a voice! Contact Kanawha County Commission via email here. Or visit the website for more contact information. According to the Public Service Commission of West Virginia the best way to make sure citizens are heard is to contact both the Kanawha County Commission as above and the Public Service commission. Contact for the PSC should be in the form of protest letters and or petitions. These must be snail mailed to:

    I have labored over the Exxon/Mobile issue for quite a while. After watching interviews with Exxon Execs and reading released statements from Exxon/Mobile I feel no choice. The current gasoline price, global warming, discrimination issues, and Exxon's reaction is unacceptable. Some examples below.
Exxon Mobil shareholders rejected efforts to make the oil giant a bit greener Wednesday.
Shareholders of Exxon Mobil Corp have blocked an in-house effort to push the oil giant further into renewable energy and set targets for curbing climate-damaging emissions at an annual meeting on Wednesday in Texas.  Read the article
Exxon  made corporate history by booking $11.7 billion in quarterly profit.
Discrimination and Exxon
These are but a few reasons why we should boycott Exxon until the profit rich, ($40.61 billion), in 2007. Just do a Google search on Exxon and you will see pages more. Exxon attitudes and statements showing that management and shareholders place profit over national best interest are paramount. In the Today Show interview the CEO stated that Americans needed to curb their dependency on oil. Good lets start by not pulling up to Exxon pumps. Why should we pay their prices when they do not place a priority on our national best interests with regard to price and pollution? Just look at Exxon profit versus gas per gallon prices for a real twinge. Gasoline prices do make for an unsafe situation. Local news has  already spoken to bicycle riders and automobile accidents. Gas theft is on the rise in several areas. Not just commercial but from vehicles as well.

Home Rule? A good thing for Charleston?
Well it may well be if our city leaders utilize Home Rule to address the abandoned building issue in Charleston. We can only hope.

Safety comes in many ways and is enhanced by many things. Lighting, safe construction, jobs, security systems, telecommunication systems, mass communication such as television and radio, heating systems, water, all add to our safety and enhance our safety. So my next venture will be an anonymous survey to determine what you the citizens feel about;
 Utility companies - the rate increases and service provided.
 Television & radio stations, newspapers, - coverage and accuracy provided.
 Neighborhood safety and how to improve.
 Additional topics as brought by the survey responses.
The surveys are not online and  I Have received quite a few  emails on local utilities, rate hikes, issues, and service. Per these emails most of our local utility companies are not very popular. Leading the pack on the low end, (most unpopular),  close numbers between West Virginia American Water and Verizon. The only company to receive positive feedback was Suddenlink. As this is based on just emails and not the actual survey, I will wait to post more on this until the survey is up and results come in. As West Virginia American Water is seeking another rate hike that may be a major reason for such placement. So make sure you check back to take the surveys. The results will be sent to the appropriate companies and city leaders.
